Residency (North Carolina)
AdmissionPros RDS Residency Screen (replaces old residency screen)
The new, NC residency determination service went live February 2017. All undergraduate applicants who are claiming NC residency must now apply for residency through RDS (https://ncresidency.cfnc.org/residencyInfo/) . Graduate applicants will follow in 2018.
Each residency applicant is provided with a unique residency classification number (RCN) at the end of their residency application. Each applicant claiming NC residency MUST provide the admissions office with their RCN. If they fail to provide their RCN, they will be notified regularly via email that their RCN is needed. Pending receipt of their RCN, their residence status for tuition purposes will remain out of state (the default, by law).
Once they provide their RCN, the AdmissionPros/Banner/RDS process will retrieve their residency determination from RDS, and populate the AdmissionPros RDS Residency screen.
If residence code is in state (I), and validated = Y, residency review status is updated to reviewed, and residence status is updated to in state
If residence code is out of state (O), and validated = Y, residency review status is updated to reviewed, and residence status is updated to out of state
NOTE: all RDS residency determinations are initially unvalidated (pending verification of info entered). Only those validated determinations are used to update residency review status and residence status as described above.
